My grandmother had a penchant for estate and garage sales. She loved buying boxes of “junk” for a quarter, or something, and I’m still sorting through some of it.
Unsure of exact age / artisan, but my research suggests this is Meji period, original. We were always convinced it must be relatively without value, due to the lack of stamp/markings, but it seems that isn’t the case.
There is a small piece of old masking tape attached to the base, that I’ve not yet tried to remove. There appear to be a couple of markings, under the tape, but I don’t know if that’s the case, or if it is simply “pitting” caused by the tape.
Reasonable pitting caused by age.
